Install guide
About 10 minutes, most of it downloads. Claude can do every step for you.
What you need
- A Mac (Apple Silicon is fastest), a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC or a Linux PC.
- Windows only: Git for Windows, from git-scm.com/downloads/win.
- Claude Code, in the Claude desktop app's Code tab or the
claudeterminal app, on a paid Claude plan. - Google Chrome (or Chromium or Brave, or Microsoft Edge on Windows). It draws the captions and graphics in the background.
- ffmpeg, Node.js 18+ and Python 3.10+. Setup checks these and prints the one-line install for anything missing.
- About 3 GB free for the speech-to-text model.
Steps
- Download the zip from the Download & Install lesson in your Whop library, then unzip it. You get a folder called
short-form-editor. - Move it to
~/.claude/skills/short-form-editor. The easiest way is to ask Claude Code:Install the short-form-editor skill from my Downloads folder into ~/.claude/skills, read its SKILL.md and run its setup.
- Run setup. Claude does this on your first edit, or run
bash ~/.claude/skills/short-form-editor/scripts/setup.shyourself. It ends withREADY. Running it again is safe: it only installs what's missing. On Windows, run it in Git Bash, not PowerShell. - Make your first edit. Start a new Claude Code session and say something like:
Edit ~/Downloads/clip.mov for TikTok, bold captions.
The first time, Claude asks a few quick questions about your content and style, and every later edit starts from your answers.
If something goes wrong
- "MISSING: ffmpeg" (or node, python, chrome): run the install line setup printed, then run setup again. No Homebrew on your Mac? Install it from brew.sh first.
- "This clip is HDR": iPhones film HDR by default. Export the clip as SDR (Photos: Share > Options > Most Compatible; CapCut: turn HDR off on export).
- The first transcription is slow: it downloads the speech model once (about 1.5 GB).
- Anything else: tell Claude what happened and ask it to check
reference/revisions-and-troubleshooting.md, or message us from your Whop library.
Updating
Replace the ~/.claude/skills/short-form-editor folder with the new version. Your profile, brand kits and saved styles live in ~/.reel-editor/ and are kept.
